Mobile organisms like seabirds can provide important nutrient flows between ecosystems but this connectivity has been interrupted by the degradation of island ecosystems. Island restoration (via invasive species eradication and the restoration of native vegetation) can reestablish seabird populations and their nutrients transfer between their foraging areas, breeding colonies and adjacent nearshore habitats.

The Financial Projection Mechanism builds upon the Rapid Climate Risk Assessment Framework (RCRAF) developed earlier in this assessment. The El Niño Southern Oscillation is currently neutral. However, the Bureau's ENSO Outlook is at La Niña Watch, due to some early signs that an event might form in the Pacific Ocean later in 2024. A La Niña Watch does not guarantee that a La Niña will develop. There is about an equal chance of neutral ENSO conditions in the same outlook period.

A desktop case study has been completed for the dive industry of the tourism sector. The dive industry was chosen due to its incorporation of fisheries and infrastructure elements, meeting the project requirement. The climate hazard information used in the RCRAF and the case study is sourced from the Van-KIRAP project. However, the information on fisheries, infrastructure and tourism were not able to be used as sufficient stakeholder engagement was not received. Consequently, the case study was largely informed by a desktop study.
