This publication is a simplified summary version of the report ‘Ecosystem and Socio-economic Resilience Analysis and Mapping (ESRAM) for Central Province, Solomon Islands’. In 2024, several communities in Central Province took part in an assessment called Ecosystem and Socio-economic Resilience Analysis and Mapping. These communities were Soka (25th Nov), Gumu (26th Nov), Toa (27th Nov), Vuranimala (28th Nov), Haleta (29th Nov), Panueli (3rd Dec), Marulaon (5th Dec) and Karumulun (5th Dec). This report summarises the information gathered and the key findings from the assessment.

Ocean Outlook, fortnight to 23 May: • Sea surface temperature (SST) forecasts more than 0.8°C above-normal are favoured in the following country EEZs: northern CNMI, central and eastern PNG, western and southern Solomon Is., Vanuatu, most of New Caledonia, most of Fiji, parts of southern Tonga. SST anomalies above 1.2°C are favoured in far northern CNMI, far eastern New Caledonia, far south-western Vanuatu and far southern Fiji. Elsewhere, SSTs are predicted to be near-normal.

In March, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) was active and along the equator over Pa-lau, southern FSM, and central RMI north of the equator. The South Pacific Convergence Zone (SPCZ) was displaced south stretching southeastwards over eastern Australia, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and Tonga.

It was developed by SPREP to raise awareness about these issues and the need for action to protect the environment of Niue.
