The Lalomanu leaders, Pulega a Alii ma faipule, and Afioga Fuataga Iakopo Faasii Faatiga II, wish to dedicate a part of their land to establish the Lua o Fafine Conservation Area. Their vision is for the protection and preservation of their natural and cultural resources to benefit current and future generations. The management plan (MP) identifies key values of the Conservation Area (CA) and a set of objectives and strategies are developed to restore, protect and safeguard those values.

Their vision is for the protection and preservation of their natural and cultural resources to benefit current and future generations. The Management Plan 9MP), identifies key values of the Conservation Area (CA) and a set of objectives and strategies are developed to restore, protect and safeguard those values.

This document is a management plan for the conservation of the natural resources and biodiversity of the Malololelei Community Conservation Area (CA) for the period 2024-2025 (10 years). The management plan is a living document that will evolve and improve through learning from implementation.

It is important to respect Samoa’s traditional knowledge, values, pre-existing perceptions and relationship towards environment, conservation, and community development. Effective community engagement needs cooperation from community members, stakeholders, community leaders, partners, and all those in association with the engagement effort—especially village and community leadership. This must be trustbased. Building relationships is a key part of reciprocal respect and a foundation of learning.

Samoa's national bird, the Manumea, is a scientific curiosity a key player in a healthy Samoan rainforest and a cultural icon for Samoa. Unique to Samoa it is also highly threatened and at risk of extinction in our lifetimes. The purpose of this campaign is to identify and adopt the specific changes in behaviour that we need to take to save our national bird, before it is too late.

The main environmental concerns for Samoa are depicted in this 15 minute video. Some of these are; the alarming rate of deforestation, freshwater supply, the degradation of reefs due to use of dynamite, coastal pollution resulting in further coral damage, continuing destruction of coastal mangroves, and the resulting decrease of fish stock in the lagoon. SPREP and the Environment Department have formulated a National Environmental Management Strategy; NEMS, which will identify policies to deal with these environmental problems. It is hoped that with the implementation of these policies, we can all continue to enjoy a cleaner and improved environment today and in the distant future.

The National Environment Sector Plan (NESP) 2022/2023 – 2026/2027 updates the NESP 2017-2021. It is based on the most recent State of the Environment (SOE) assess- ment documented in 2023, and lessons learned from the previous NESP.

This special occasion is our way to acknowledge Samoa’s leadership in the region and its continued support to SPC, USP, and SPREP. We would also like to highlight through this video, the contribution of the three CROP organisations towards Samoa’s sustainable development in key areas that are within the purview of the respective organisations for example higher learning and education, environment, climate change, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, land management, culture, and public health to name a few.
