Sea surface temperature (SST) forecasts more than 0.8°C above normal are favoured in the following countries' Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs): CNMI, southern PNG, most of the Solomon Is., Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji, southern Tonga, and central Niue. SST anomalies above 1.2°C are favoured in parts of northern CNMI, southern PNG, southern Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the southern half of Fiji and Tonga. Forecasts more than 0.8°C below normal are favoured for northern Phoenix Is., and western Line Is. (Kiribati). Elsewhere, SSTs are expected to be near normal.

The South-West Pacific region encompasses the Australian and South Pacific tropical cyclone areas (covering the southern hemisphere from 90°E eastward to 120°W, up to the equator) as well as part of the western and central North Pacific areas. The tropical cyclone season in the southern hemisphere basins typically runs from November to April, while in the western North Pacific tropical cyclone activity peaks between June and November, although cyclones can occur at any time of year.

This handbook is for farmers, field and extension workers and educators in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu and helps strengthen food security int he face of climate change by reporting on variety if traditional and innovative farming technologies. It encourages farmers to think about and plan for the effects of climate change and other challenges to their communities.

THe session explores the transformative potential of Earth Observation (EO) technologies, including satellite data, in supporting climate change resilience across Pacific Island Countries (PICs). It brings together experts and practitioners to discuss how EO tools can inform decision-making, strengthen partnership, and enhanced climate change adaptation strategies tailored to the unique challenges of the Pacific region.

Pacific leaders believe climate experts are missing an opportunity to incorporate indigenous knowledge into adaptation measures. The call has been made as hundreds of scientist, global leaders, and climate adaptation experts around the globe gather at the Adaptation Futures Conference in Christchurch.

Pacific climate leaders have expressed disappointment over New Zealand's decision to slash its methane reduction targets by nearly half. SPREP Director-General, Sefanaia Nawadra said would like to see New Zealand do more. "I'm hoping that New Zealand will take responsibility for those emissions to ensure they contribute to the reductions that we all know is needed, "he said.
