The Huon Coast Leatherback Turtle Conservation Project - Final Report Submitted to the Western Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Council
Marine Research Foundation
2007
The Huon Coast of Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG) hosts 50% of leatherback nesting activity in PNG, and is among the largest population in the western Pacific, second only to West Papua, Indonesia. Information from current population monitoring efforts indicates serious and continued nesting beach impacts to leatherback turtles. Without intervention and an appropriate sustainable management plan, continued population impacts and declines are expected.
