The number of reported small Marine Managed Areas (MMAs) driven by local communities has strongly increased in the Pacific region in the last 10 years. They are now presented as on of the main fishery and coastal management tool adapted to the context of many Pacific countries where intervention of the official agency is minimum and where the participation of community is still important.

The Pacific Resilience Partnership (PRP) is launching a strategy that sets the path for monitoring and evaluating the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (FRDP). Monitoring and evaluation(M&E) are essential activities for learning and improving performance. They provide an opportunity to learn about what worked or did not work and why in a systematic way and how things might be done differently in the future to ensure targets and more desirable outcomes are realised.

This report assesses the gaps and opportunities for monitoring and evaluating the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (FRDP). The FRDP is a regional voluntary action plan that Pacific island country (PIC) leaders endorsed in 2016 to integrate climate and disaster risk governance for sustainable development. This report begins with an overview of the study's purpose and background. A review of policy briefs and policies from the region and elsewhere framed the identification of gaps and opportunities for monitoring and evaluating the FRDP.

The context in which PICTs import, produce, use and manage energy in the 2020s and beyond will differ from 2010 when the previous 10 year framework began. The region faces even more serious challenges, including: severe climate change and impacts on energy infrastructure; continued heavy dependence on petroleum fuel during a period of expected of global energy market transformation and potential dislocation; continued uncertainties and negative social and economic impacts due to COVID-19 and potentially, further pandemics, and the extension of affordable clean energy services to communities currently poorly served

This handbook is designed to give practical guidance on improving gender and social inclusion in coastal fisheries and aquaculture for staff working in fisheries agencies in Pacific island countries and territories. It focuses in the responsibilities of Pacific Island governments to help promote sustainable development outcomes for all people relying on coastal fisheries and aquaculture for their livelihoods.

The aim of this policy brief is to: alert Pacific island countries and territories (PICTs) to the projected effects of climate change on the contributions that oceanic fisheries make to economic development and government revenue and identify the adaptations and policies needed to reduce the threats and capitalise on the opportunities.

The freshwater resources of the Pacific Islands are diverse, from islands where large rivers abound to countries where no surface water resources exist and whose people rely solely on rainwater for their potable and economic needs.

Coral reef monitoring on Rarotonga has been ongoing for around20 years, with surveys conducted in 1994, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2011, and this present survey in 2014. Results from these surveys showed that the crown-of-thorns starfish (COTS) outbreak that occurred from 1995 to 2001,and to a lesser extent storm surge associated with the 2003 to 2005 cyclone sand several coral bleaching events, were the main causes of the degraded state of Rarotonga's fore reef communities for much of the 2000s. While the 2006 survey indicated that mean hard coral cover for all sites were around 1%, it was noted that conditions were set for recovery to occur. Mean coral cover was around 5%in 2009, around 8% in 2011, and 16% in 2014, which clearly showed that coral communities on the fore reef has been recovering since 2006.In support, coral size class data also showed a significant increase of larger colonies in 2014 when compared with 2006.
