Climate change is a major risk to good development outcomes, and the World Bank Group is committed to playing an important role in helping countries integrate climate action into core development agendas. Timor-Leste's tropical climate is heavily influenced by the West Pacific Monsoon and its mountainous climate. Timor-Leste had undergone significant development in recent decades due to political stability and oil revenues. It is one of the world's most oil-dependant countries, with production beginning in 2004 and predicted to finish in 2021.
