The policy and purposes are to cover communication developments of significance and interest to the peoples and nations of the Pacific Islands; to review communication research and developments about Pacific Islands communication to report changes in communication media staff, structures, problems, policies and prospects to provide a forum for discussion and examination.

These policies influence the use of existing resource and the development of new resources and also help determine technical and economic structure of manufacturing thus affecting capital labour ratios, the scale and technology, the location and distribution of industrial plants and the barriers to entry of the new enterprises.

This preliminary bibliography on environment issue in the South Pacific undertaken by a number of institutions namely the South Pacific commission, The National Library of Australia and the University of the South Pacific and involving a number of librarians, academics, environmentalists and interested people has been prepared as a bibliographical work of reference in this particular field for distribution and comment at the forthcoming SPREP Consultative Meeting of Research Organisations to be held in Suva in April 1983.
