It responds to the activities and key actions set out in the table in Annex II of decision XIII/24 of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Specifically, activity B. 1: “Collaboration in the management of information and knowledge and alignment in national data gathering, reporting, monitoring and indicators”.

This compendium of guidance provides details of information sources for capturing, managing, using, and sharing data, all in the context of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

The need for effective cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders, including across levels of governance and sectors, to support the development of coherent policies and harmonized implementation of biodiversity-related conventions, is widely acknowledged.
