The Government of Kiribati is responsible for waste management policy and planning through the Ministry of Environment, Land, and Agricultural Development (MELAD) and waste infrastructure and public education through the Bureau of Public Works. Local and municipal councils are responsible for the delivery of household and commercial waste collections which are contracted to private operators, council owned waste facilities, and waste related projects

This case study provides an overview of key components of the project, such as community engagement, completion of waste audits, selection of infrastructure, training, and policy integration, and design of selected compost facilities.

Fiji's rural communities often have constrained unmanaged dumpsites which receive their waste, as a formal waste collection services are not provided.

Fiji comprises of over 300 islands spread over an EEZ area of 1.29 million km2. Fiji is the fifth country that carried out an Impacts Analysis Methodology developed as part of the EU funded GCCA+SUPA project.
