The National Environment Strategy 2017-2022 is a commitment by the Republic of the Marshall Islands to conserve and improve its environment for current and future generations. In the RMI State of Environment Report (SoE) 2016 (SPREP), the Office of Environment Protection and Policy Coordination (OEPPC) worked with other sectors and partners to identify its shortfalls. A strategy to address these shortfalls was developed through the National Environment Management Strategy (NEMS) 2017-2022. The NEMS 2017-2022 promotes sustainable development and integrates environment conservation and the proper governance of development efforts

CIFOR advances human wellbeing, environmental conservation and equity by conducting research to inform policies and practices that affect forests in developing countries. CIFOR is one of 15 centres within the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). CIFOR’s headquarters are in Bogor, Indonesia. It also has offices in Asia, Africa and South America.

As island states located within the world's largest ocean, the member countries of SPREP are over- whelmingly dependent on shipping. Despite the ben- efits and necessity of shipping, this human use of the ocean cau also cause a range of sometimes severe environmental impacts.

The General Assembly, in its resolution 62/191, decided to review the progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of small island developing States at the sixty-fifth session of the Assembly. Preparations for the five-year review process have begun and had resulted in a series of national and regional review reports as of March 2010.
