The Model Strategy and Guideline should be tailored to the individual legislative framework of the country seeking to adopt and implement the Strategy and Guideline. As such, this Model Strategy and Guideline is designed to provide base information that is easily tailored to specific circumstances and legislation used in Country. Lastly, this document contains all critical elements needed to produce a National Healthcare Waste Management Strategy and Implementation Guideline. However, depending on circumstances, some of the Strategy and Guideline sections may not be needed. In those situations, those sections should be excised from the final document adopted.

The overall objective of PacWastePlus is “to generate improved economic, social, health and environmental benefits arising from stronger regional economic integration and the sustainable management of natural resources and the environment”. The specific objective is “to ensure the safe and sustainable management of waste with due regard for the conservation of biodiversity, health and wellbeing of Pacific Island communities and climate change mitigation and adaptation requirements”.

However medium terms forecasts (Climate Information Services) struggle to find its intended destination and audience, resulting in the practical application of Climate Information Services at the community level being limited if not nonexistent.

The NISSAP aims to protect the RMI’s natural resources, environment, and communities from the impact of invasive species. Further, it seeks to enhance and strengthen cooperation and coordination to combat invasive species by improving public awareness, enhancing capacity for managing and preventing the introduction and spread of invasive species. The NISSAP includes an overview of the current situation of invasive species in the RMI and identifies the process for their management. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Commerce will implement the NISSAP in cooperation with key stakeholders and partners.

Previous efforts to prevent, eradicate, and control invasive species in Tuvalu demonstrate that collaboration across all levels of government, Kaupule, landowners, and other interested parties is critical to minimising the spread and impact of invasive species. This NISSAP will provide us with guidance on how to address the problems that invasive species pose to our environment. The NISSAP is a plan for an urgent and effective response to reduce the threat of invasive species. It will help us enact preventive measures for early detection and rapid response at our marine ports and airports, specifically targeting inbound commercial shipments and the importation of exotic animals and plants.

This Strategy is an framework document that defines Palau’s environmental priorities and actions. It implements and is consistent with existing national policies that promote sustainable development and environmental conservation. The Strategy prescribes environmental management actions in eleven sectors including climate change; land management and food security; nearshore marine management; offshore marine management; freshwater management; biodiversity conservation; waste management; chemical management; built environment; culture, heritage, and awareness; and environmental governance.
