The Majuro Atoll Waste Company in RMI needed a more efficient solution for processing the tough, fibrous organic materials typical of the Pacific region. The existing “disk-blade” shredders struggled to process the materials, requiring frequent stoppages for blade clearance and overheating. A due-diligence investigation identified “drum-blade” shredders offer a safer, more efficient, and durable solution. The drum-blade shredder was procured for the Republic of Marshal Islands, this case study provides information on the selection process and operational details.

Ocean Outlook, fortnight to 6 June: • Sea surface temperature (SST) forecasts more than 0.8°C above-normal are favoured in the following country EEZs: northern CNMI, Palau, southwest parts of FSM, eastern and northern PNG, western and central Solomon Is, southern and northern edge of Vanuatu, and New Caledonia. SST anomalies above 1.2°C are favoured in small area in southeast New Caledonia. Elsewhere, SSTs are predicted to be near-normal.

The El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole are neutral. Bureau's model predicts neutral ENSO (neither El Niño nor La Niña) until at least September. This is consistent with forecasts from a range of international models. However, skill for ENSO forecasts at this time of the year has historically been low beyond winter.

The Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department (VMGD) provides short (weather) and medium (Climate) term forecasts and warning to the people of Vanuatu. However medium terms forecasts (Climate Information Services) struggle to find its intended destination and audience, resulting in the practical application of Climate Information Services at the community level being limited if not nonexistent.
