It gives me a great pleasure to present the first issue of UNEP ACP MEAs 3 programme newsletter for 2021. Newsletters, by nature, are used as tools to present a synopsis of actions under specific projects and programmes. This makes a newsletter not too attractive for people other than those involved in the activities. Challenges of our decreasing attention span to focus on reading long newsletters is a concern for someone producing them.

Our future got much bleaker with the release of the first report in the sixth series from Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change (IPCC) on 9 August. Released just days before the World Youth Day, the report does not bode well for our future generations, reinforcing the same key messages from earlier IPCC annual reports. Urges changes must be made to limit global warming to the Paris agreements 1.5 degree Celsius temperature limit while there is still time

There is growing interest in using ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) to maintain or restore ecosystem services to increase humans resilience to climate change. However to date the focus on EbA has been on conceptualising the approach and encouraging its use, rather than understanding EbA in practice.
