Asbestos Management Brief: Niue
SPREP Publications, Waste Management and Pollution Control
Available Online
2022
As a Party, Niue is obliged to enact national regulations to bring the conventions into the national regulatory framework. It is these national laws and regulations that then provide the implementing mechanisms to manage asbestos and ensure compliance with the conventions.

2021
Items are imported into Niue in growing numbers, but there are currently limited viable options for their end-of-life management and/or export. As such most items imported are disposed of at the dumpsites or stockpiled on vacant land. Electronic waste stockpiles, in particular are increasing resulting in increased pollution and health risks to Niue people. The priority for Niue is to introduce a financially sustainable system to enable the long term collection, management and export of recyclable and end of life electronic items, utilising the new Recycle facility (funded by the Government of Australia)

Assessment of Legislative Frameworks Governing Waste Management in Niue.
SPREP Publications, Waste Management and Pollution Control
Available Online
2021
Waste management issues in Niue are governed under general environmental and public health legislation. There is no specific legislation for waste management. Given the lack of natural water sources on the island, another important piece of legislation relevant to preventing water pollution is the Water Act 2012.
