The purpose of the Greening of the Games Sustainability Report is to share the vision, strategy, key outcomes, best practices, and lessons learned before, during, and subsequent to the Samoa 2019 Pacific Games

This is the Pacific Islands region’s Strategy for solid waste management, setting the strategic direction for the period 2010-2015. It is supported by a highlevel implementation plan which sets out the key actions that will be taken to deliver the vision of the strategy.

This study presents the first elements of an initiative on solid waste management, endorsed by France under the framework of reinforcing regional cooperation in the Pacific region and identified jointly by the Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The initiative will be based on the strategy adopted by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and will be coordinated with existing or future projects in the region.

Steps to reduce waste in schools

The purpose of the workshop was to enhance the capacity of local community members to better manage waste on Bau Island. Although the aim was to improve waste management on the island in the long-term the focus of the workshop was to improve waste management practices in preparation for the Annual Methodist Conference to be held on Bau Island in August 2006 and to appropriately manage waste produced during the conference. Bau Island is a unique situation in relation to waste management because of its separation from the mainland and lack of land availability on the island which poses challenges for both solid and liquid waste management.

The world is being swamped by mountains of rubbish.This is a problem everywhere, and no more so than in the small island nations of the Pacific. The challenge is to deal with all this rubbish. This Resource Kit aims to assist those working in waste management to deal with the rubbish problem, by showing how to extract resources from the waste stream while keeping costs down.
