The third Conference of the Parties to the Convention to Ban the Importation into Forum Island Countries of Hazardous and Radioactive Wastes and to Control the Transboundary Movement and the Management of Hazardous Wastes within the South Pacific Region (Waigani Convention) was held on 8 September 2006 in Noumea, New Caledonia.

L'orientation du PROE a travers ce programme reflete un engagement fondamental en faveur du maintien des modes de subsistance des peuples insulaires, grace a la conservation et a la gestion efficaces des ecosystemes terrestres, cotiers et marins. Ce programme vise a developper les capacites des peuples oceaniens afin de les aider a conserver et gerer durablement les ecosystemes et les ressources de leurs lies. II vise egalement a proteger les especes menacees prioritaires et a preserver les pays et territoires des especes exotiques envahissantes. A travers ce programme, le PROE entend aborder les questions de conservation des ecosystemes tenrestres, cotiers et marins, de gestion durable des ressources naturelles et de protection des especes menacees prioritaires contre les menaces anthropiques et les especes envahissantes. Ces questions necessitent des interventions aux niveaux local, national, regional et international.

The Joint Eighth Ordinary Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Conservation of Nature in the South Pacific (Apia Convention), and the Convention for the Protection of the Natural Resources and Environment of the South Pacific Region and Related Protocols (Noumea Convention, also known as the SPREP Convention), was held on 7, 10, and 13 September 2006 in Noumea, New Caledonia.
