The Book of Abstracts for the 4th Pacific Ocean Pacific Climate Change Conference, joint coordinations between two universities in the region; Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand and the National University of Samoa with SPREP through the Pacific Climate Change Centre (PCCC), on the 20th – 24th May 2024 in Apia, Samoa.

The Real-Time Analysis and Influence Stream aims to provide timely exploration of emerging issues and thematic areas across the humanitarian sector and to produce practice papers. Practice papers are concise and high-level analysis pieces intended to inform humanitarian response practices and support decision-making and discussions about future action.

The 2022 Vision Pasifika Media Award highlights the role of Pacific Media in amplifying our Pacific voice on climate change. As storytellers, the Pacific media are crucial in sharing our climate change experiences and how we address these challenges as we strive for resilience.

That Ocean acidification directly impacts us all? It is the process where seawater becomes more acidified from the increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as a result of burning fossil fuels and other human activities. On top of the existential threat posed by Climate Change, Ocean Acidification will become increasingly problematic for our Pacific people given our reliance on the Ocean for Everything.

The Pacific Resilience Partnership (PRP) is launching a strategy that sets the path for monitoring and evaluating the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (FRDP). Monitoring and evaluation(M&E) are essential activities for learning and improving performance. They provide an opportunity to learn about what worked or did not work and why in a systematic way and how things might be done differently in the future to ensure targets and more desirable outcomes are realised.

This report assesses the gaps and opportunities for monitoring and evaluating the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (FRDP). The FRDP is a regional voluntary action plan that Pacific island country (PIC) leaders endorsed in 2016 to integrate climate and disaster risk governance for sustainable development. This report begins with an overview of the study's purpose and background. A review of policy briefs and policies from the region and elsewhere framed the identification of gaps and opportunities for monitoring and evaluating the FRDP.

Temperatures have increased, sea level has risen, cyclones have become less frequent but more intense, and ocean acidification has occurred1,2. This is affecting water resources, health, agriculture, fisheries, biodiversity, infrastructure, tourism and other sectors
