PACRES aims to enhance regional and national adaptation and mitigation solutions to address climate change challenges faced by 15 Pacific ACP countries

Mana Moana – Pasifika Voices is a collection of artistic video works, created to amplify and support the Pacific to drive global action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This collection is the second in a series that began in 2021.

Assessment of vulnerability to climate change undertaken over the last two decades have identified Vanuatu as highly exposed to climate variability and change and at risks of impacts, with the country ranked 9th globally under the Climate Risk Index for 1998-2017.

The purpose of the Guiding Framework is to support anyone or any institution planning and implementing invasive species projects or programmes on islands in the Pacific. To this end, this document lists the essential components of a comprehensive and effective invasive species management programme. It has been compiled in consultation with experts and Pacific Island countries and territories, to support them in developing their invasive species work and to guide regional and international agencies. The Guiding Framework has been endorsed by all countries and territories in the Pacific islands region and the metropolitan countries with jurisdictional responsibilities in the Pacific via the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and Pacific Community (SPC) Meetings.

In the spirit of Pacific Partnership, Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia with regional agencies is hosting a Moana BluePacific Pavilion at COP28 for which a significant number of Pacific-focused side events will be showcased

At the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme, 2022 was a year of challenges, opportunities and continued growth and resilience. The continued growth and resilience of SPREP is a testament to the unwavering commitment by your Secretariat, including SPREP Members and Partners which have made it possible for SPREP to achieve positive results, for the conservation and protection of our Pacific environment for present and future generations, despite the challenges.

Fiji comprises of over 300 islands spread over an EEZ area of 1.29 million km2. Fiji is the fifth country that carried out an Impacts Analysis Methodology developed as part of the EU funded GCCA+SUPA project.

Early action on adaptation and mitigation will be beneficial in both the near and long term, reducing climate risks for humans and ecosystems. Adaptation actions will benefit Pacific islanders through reduced vulnerability but cannot prevent all losses and damages.
