This report presents the Samoa Energy Review 2023 consists of five chapters namely, the energy overview, renewable energy, electricity, petroleum and end-use sector. The Samoa Energy Review 2023 was analysed and compiled by the Energy Policy Coordination & Management Division of the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure to provide the Government of Samoa, businesses, communities, and the general public with a better understanding of energy data trends, key milestones and sectoral relationships.

The report of the State of the Climate in the South-West Pacific 2023 provides details regarding temperature, precipitation, tropical cyclones, extreme events and their socioeconomic impacts. The transition form La Nina to El Nino conditions in the course of 2023 influenced weather and climate patterns in the region. However although the 2023/2024 El Nino event in ending, climate change continues to accelerate.

Global-mean sea level is rising and accelerating as a direct consequence of human-induced global warming. This rise int he sea level is driven primarily by two factors: the melting of land ice and the expansion of seawater as it warms.

The report encapsulates scientific research, social science analysis and Indigenous knowledge in a holistic way, while amplifying the voices of grassroots communities whose wisdom and experiences are often overlooked in climate policy discourses.

As climate impacts intensify, adaptation action continues to fall behind needs. The 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) in Baku provides an important opportunity to alter this trajectory.

Climate change loss and damage (L&D) due to both sudden slow-onset events are a growing concern for vulnerable countries.

The Weather Ready Pacific Program will reduce the human and economic cost of severe weather events across the Pacific - protecting communities and livelihoods, and making a strong positive contribution to the economy of the Region.

Many Commonwealth member states face the burnt of the climate crisis. In the Pacific Island states and the wider Pacific region, the frequency of severe weather events has increased. For instance, in 2023 the island of Vanuatu was impacted by cyclones Judy and Kevin in March and afterwards by cyclone Lola.
