One of the major issues not only in French Polynesian but also around the Pacific countries is the destruction of natural resources or the disruption of local way of life by tourism. One of the instant impact of larger scale of tourism is having to deal with sewage, sewage from resorts is often pumped into the lagoon, which destroys the very asset that attract tourists. This also means that it can affect the fishstock in this area. The conference aims to establish an Australian branch of the worldwide network a directory of women in the environment. This conference hopes to bring together women around Australia to talk about environmental issues of concerns about the environment over the last 10 years.

This monograph sheds light on the status of secondary plant cover, heretofore little known, on slopes between sea level and about 750m in the Marquesas Islands, a remote tropical Polynesian archipelago of high islands of volcanic origin situated in the dry tradewind zone of the South Pacific. Plant cover types are described and assigned to xerotropical, transitional and pluviotropical floristic zones determined in part by comparison with similar zones previously devised for Oahu Island, Hawaii.
