The KIEP 2021-2036 continues our drive away from the old sector-based approaches and towards more integrated, "source-to-sea" and "island-to-island" approach to environmental management; mainstreaming all of the principles of ecological sustainability; ensuring greater equity in the sharing of environmental benefits, resurrecting, resorting and applying the ancient wisdom of traditional ecological knowledge, and seeking to build a more sustainable, circular, green-blue economy.

The Van-KIRAP project is intended to build the technical capacity in Vanuatu to (i) harness and manage all relevant climate data (ii) develop and deliver practical climate information services (CIS) tools and resources at all levels of society (iii) support enhanced coordination and dissemination of tailored climate-related information to a wide range of potentially vulnerable stakeholders, (iv) enhance and modernise Vanuatu's CIS information and technology infrastructure and (v) support the application and relevant CIS through real-time development processes and case studies in 5 sectors for more resilient outcomes.

The purpose of the Climate Information Services for Resilient Development in Vanuatu Klaemet Informesen Blong Redy, Adapt mo Protek (Van-KIRAP) Traditional Knowledge strategy 2019-2024 is to establish the strategic direction for strengthening coordination and implementation of traditional knowledge (TK) related activities for the Van-KIRAP project, the Vanuatu Meteorological and Geo-hazards Departments (VMGD) and its key shareholders.

Baseline information on seabirds is urgently needed, particularly to determine presence of remnant populations of petrels and shearwaters to enable management actions to developed for their protection, enhancement and/or restoration to these islands.

This report is an outcome of the high degree of cooperation and collaboration that exists between the implementing partners of the Australia Aid-funded Climate and Ocean Support Program in the Pacific (COSPPac). specifically the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), the Pacific Community (SPC) and Pacific Regional Environmental Programme (SPREP) together with the valuable ongoing support from the national meteorological services in the IS partner countries and territories.
