The advice on management of asbestos in the region is focused on the prevention of community exposure to asbestos fibers in order the eliminate asbestos-related disease. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause a range of fatal disease such as asbestosis (fibrosis of the lungs) and a range of cancers, including mesothelioma (WHO, 2018). When products containing asbestos are damaged or become degraded over time, asbestos fibres are exposed and can become airborne.

The management and disposal of asbestos and asbestos containing materials (ACM) is an ongoing concern in the Pacific region. In seeking to improve the ways that asbestos and asbestos containing materials are managed; our project's focus is to prevent exposure to asbestos fibres in order the eliminate asbestos-related diseases. Asbestos is a known health hazard and may be present in buildings and pipes throughout the Pacific.

Coordinated by the Pacific Islands Climate Action Network, the event gave voice to Pacific island peoples sharing their challenges and what can be done at the global level to help address these. This was held at the Moana Blue Pacific on 4 November from 8.35 – 9.55pm Glasgow time. 8.35 – 9.55pm

The El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is currently at La Niña ALERT. Most in-ternational climate models surveyed by the Bureau indicate weak La Niña condi-tions are likely for the coming months. The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is currently weak or indiscernible. Most models indicate the MJO is likely to remain weak over the coming week to fort-night.
