The Tuvalu Waste Analysis Report provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of waste generation, composition and management across the country. It serves as a foundational document to guide policy formulation, infrastructure development, and stakeholder coordination toward a more efficient, inclusive and sustainable waste management system. Data and information captured i this report is guided by the overarching Regional Waste Collection, Monitoring and Reporting Framework (DCMR)

Tuvalu’s waste management system is guided by the Tuvalu Integrated Waste Policy and Action Plan (2017–2026), which aims to create cleaner and healthier islands by focusing on prevention, minimization, reuse, recycling, recovery, and safe disposal of waste.

PacWastePlus has assisted Tuvalu to understand the legacy asbestos management issues and recycling to all outer islands. This short video provides a summary of project activities.

Tuvalu’s Outer Islands have not received significant support for waste management, and do not: • Have facilities to participate in the Waste Levy (implemented in Funafuti 2019) so all items are disposed to the environment or dumps. • Have understanding of the presence of Asbestos and impact on human health

The GEF 6 RIP Project is managing invasives in Tuvalu through the Pacific Regional Invasive Species Management Support Service.

This toolkit aims to provide teachers across the Pacific with resources and activities that will allow them to increase awareness of the issues surrounding waste generation and disposal, as well as enabling students to plan and implement strategies appropriate to their schools, homes, and communities to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Sam Panapa, the National Invasive Species Coordinator speaks about the challenges there resides in Tokelau regarding Invasive species Management. Furthermore he explains how they have rose to the occasion in attempt to eradicate the existing invasive species

Previous efforts to prevent, eradicate, and control invasive species in Tuvalu demonstrate that collaboration across all levels of government, Kaupule, landowners, and other interested parties is critical to minimising the spread and impact of invasive species. This NISSAP will provide us with guidance on how to address the problems that invasive species pose to our environment. The NISSAP is a plan for an urgent and effective response to reduce the threat of invasive species. It will help us enact preventive measures for early detection and rapid response at our marine ports and airports, specifically targeting inbound commercial shipments and the importation of exotic animals and plants.

Tuvalu's waste management practices primarily rely on burying, burning, dumping, and landfilling. There is limited access to proper waste collection and disposal facilities, leading to environmental degradation and health hazards. Waste recovery is primarily carried out by the Solid Waste Agency of Tuvalu (DSW). Bulky waste, e-waste, green waste, used oils, and other materials are collected and stored at Tuvalu’s transfer station.
