Central to the lives of coastal communities in Fiji, inshore fisheries provide a crucial food and income source. Inshore fisheries also feed a huge demand for fish from the domestic market that, coupled with the lack of effective management, is placing fisheries under enormous stress.

The livelihoods of more than 4,000 residents of the Qoliqoli Cokovata rest in the sea. Marine resources provide food for subsistence and income to pay for everything else; access to health services, education and markets.
