In 2009, an estimated 99.95% of total energy consumed in Nauru was supplied from imported petroleum products, with the remaining 0.05% met by solar power. Diesel and petrol are the two main petroleum products consumed in Nauru for electricity generation (diesel only), transportation and meeting the energy needs of the phosphate mining company — Ronphos. Energy for domestic needs such as cooking and lighting is mainly supplied by electricity. Liquid petroleum gas (LPG) for household cooking has slowly increased over the years. In 2009, around 9.45 tonnes of LPG were imported.

Fiji Energy Security Indicator Profile 2009 Energy consumption in Fiji like the rest of PICTs is heavily dependent on petroleum fuels, which roughly account for over 91% of the country’s consumption. Liquid petroleum fuel is currently supplied to Fiji by three multinational petroleum companies (Pacific Energy, Mobil and Total), which ship fuel in medium range tankers mainly from Singapore and South Korea. In 2009, around 259 million litres of diesel, 58 million litres of petrol, 191 million litres of kerosene and 16 kilo tonnes of LPG were imported into the country. LPG is mainly imported from Australia by Fiji Gas and Blue Gas. Fuel import for 2009 stood in the vicinity of USD 345 million dollars with the current GDP of USD 2.48 billion dollars. Fiji also re-exports fuels to a number of small PICs such as Tuvalu and Tonga. The transport sector (land, maritime and air) is perceived as the major sector that consumes fuel imported to Fiji accounting for some 70% of the fuel consumed. Energy consumption in Niue is predominantly reliant on imported fossil fuels, which roughly account for over 99% of the country’s consumption. Petroleum fuel is currently supplied to Niue by REEF Bulk Fuels, which ship fuel in tanktainers on cargo ships from New Zealand. The fuels supplied are regular unleaded petrol (91 octane), diesel and jet fuel. In 2009 around 532 thousand litres of petrol, 1.2 million litres of diesel and 25.8 tonnes of LPG were imported into the country. The indicative fuel import bill for 2009 was estimated in the vicinity of NZD 3.2 million with the current total GDP of Niue standing at NZD 16.2 million.
