Message from the European Union - Pierre-Henri Hellepute, Chef de Bureau de l’Union Européenne pour les Pays et Territoires d’Outre-Mer du Pacifique, présente les objectifs du programme PROTEGE, qui vise à appuyer les territoires d’outre-mer du Pacifique pour mettre en place des économies plus résilientes face à la problématique du changement climatique. Il souligne la contribution de la lutte contre les espèces envahissantes pour la protection de la biodiversité. Pierre-Henri Hellepute, Head of the European Union Office for the Pacific Overseas Countries and Territories, presents the objectives of the PROTEGE program, which aims to support Pacific overseas territories in building more resilient economies in the face of climate change. It highlights the contribution of the fight against invasive species to the protection of biodiversity.

PRISMSS is a coalition of organisations working together to tackle the issue of Invasive species in the Pacific, providing Pacific Island countries with access to best practice and expertise in managing invasive species. Five programmes of PRISMSS involve Protect Our Islands, Predator Free Pacific, War On Weeds, Natural Enemies Natural Solutions, and Resilient Ecosystems Resilient Communities which address all thematic areas of IS management.

Mr Oudart leads the development of biosecurity detector canine teams based at the Faa’a International Airport in charge of controlling international and inter-island arrivals via air, as well as a team based at the commercial port in charge of ships, inter-island schooners and private sailboats. The efforts aim to strengthen border control under the EDF-funded PROTEGE project to avoid introduction of species such as red fire ants, fruit flies, and other harmful invasive species such as Citrus tristeza virus, coconut rhinoceros beetle and bee varroosis.
