Greenpeace revealed that 6,000 dolphins, along with other marine animals are killed unscrupulously by driftnet fishing throughout the Pacific Ocean. To document this new deadly fishing technology, the Rainbow Warrior set out on an assignment to track down driftnet vessels. It managed to track down a Japanese driftnet vessel, catching tuna at night. A technique frowned upon for it's ability to kill even untargetted marine animals, it is also contributing to plastic pollution in the seas with its debris of nylon net often entangling and killing marine life. As a result, Greenpeace called for an International ban on external driftnetting on a large scale.
