The purpose of the Guiding Framework is to support anyone or any institution planning and implementing invasive species projects or programmes on islands in the Pacific. To this end, this document lists the essential components of a comprehensive and effective invasive species management programme. It has been compiled in consultation with experts and Pacific Island countries and territories, to support them in developing their invasive species work and to guide regional and international agencies. The Guiding Framework has been endorsed by all countries and territories in the Pacific islands region and the metropolitan countries with jurisdictional responsibilities in the Pacific via the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and Pacific Community (SPC) Meetings.

An overlook to what has been happening since the last issue was sent out. With the Covid-19 pandemic happening around the world it caused us to postpone all our planned activites and now we have turn to online/virtual meetings.

The natural environment has always been a part of Pacific island culture. It has shaped our way of leaving in our early lives. the kingdom of Tonga SOE report aims to give Tonga the best and clearest status of it environment by answering the following key questons:|What is the current condition of the Tongan environment?|What are the risk the Togan environment faces and what measures have been put forward to minimise them? This could provide lessons for the Togan.|Where is the environment of Togan headed based on the assessed thermatic areas?|some of the drivers that triggers the change of the environment in TOgan are, social, economic, technological and culture forces referred to as drivers.

In the tropical Pacific ocean, the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) remains neutral. The positive Indian ocean dipole (IOD) events continues.

Coral reefs support an estimates 25 percent of all marine species in the world.

In 1950 it was estimated that two million metric tonnes of plastic was produced, in 2015 the planet produced 32 million metric tonnes of plastic.

This issue highlights a series of stories from the Pacific on climate change. Featuring the multimillion dollar project for Vanuatu, readiness support for FSM and Niue and of course ongoing capacity development around the region including Fiji to name a few.

Wanting to make a positive difference in the world is one thing, knowing the best way to make that difference is another, yet for the Kingdom of Tonga this ‘best way’ seems to have been found and is being put to use.
