ABC, Project Wild visits Tonga to witness the efforts by three ladies, from the Vava'u Environmental Protection Association (VEPA) to save the Tongan Whistler (an endemic bird to Tonga), by eradicating rats with bait stations and removing other food sources such as the Invasive weed - Lopa.

Project Wild ABC visits Tonga where three young men attempt to restore the native bush called Toloa rainforest that is home to their endangered birds. Weeding out the invasive weeds, conserving and managing the native plants as an act of Climate Resilience.

Three workshops were held over two years for the three sub-regions in the Pacific: Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia. Each workshop considered a summary of threatened species in their sub-region and generic problems, and then decided on a priority list of project briefs for bird conservation projects. The workshops also revised the draft regional strategy.

Pacilic island countries are particularly vulnerable to the effects of invasive species. After habitat destruction or modification, invasive species are responsible for more species extinctions than any other cause. Further, the rate of extinction of native species has been higher on islands than anywhere else in the world. Invasive species have also degraded native ecosystems.
