The Pacific BioScapes Programme is providing support to the Pacific Islands Protected Area Portal to strengthen access to Pacific biodiversity information and communication for enhanced decision making. In the Pacific, protected areas encompass more than just national parks and other areas established by central governments.

The Pacific BioScapes Programme is providing support to implement the Pacific Coral Reef Action Plan 2021-2030. Developed with SPREP’s members and adopted in September 2021 at the 30th SPREP meeting, the plan enables leaders of Pacific Island countries, coral-reef managers and community members to coordinate their efforts and access resources to protect these valuable ecosystems.

The Pacific BioScapes Programme is supporting the sustainable management of coastal ecosystems and species to support small-scale fisheries by local communities. To support these outcomes, a regional coral-reef fishery learning exchange and workshop to develop fisheries data analysis and species-based assessments will also take place. At the workshop participants from Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and Kiribati will discuss fisheries management issues and support the development of management guidelines.
