Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), aims to assist the Pacific Nations with the relevant information and guidance required to assist Nations in relation to the assessment of dumping of materials at sea. The guidance offers no judgment on the type of method best suited to any particular Nation, but identifies some of the options available for consideration. These guidelines deal only with aspects under the purview of the London Convention 1972 and the 1996 Protocol. Nations are to be aware that environmental impacts may result from the disposal of materials at sea.

The Marine Environment Protection Committee, at its sixty-sixth session (31 March to 4 April 2014), with a view to providing guidance on the reduction of underwater noise from commercial shipping, and following a recommendation made by the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Equipment, at its fifty-seventh session, approved the annexed Guidelines for the reduction of underwater noise from commercial shipping to address adverse impacts on marine life.

In 2000, Pacific Islands Handbook Of International Marine Pollution Conventions was Published by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This handbook was compiled under the auspices of the Pacific Ocean Pollution Prevention Programme (PACPOL).

As agreed at the sixty-second session of the Technical Co-operation Committee (TC 62), the Secretariat developed the Country Maritime Profile (CMP) document to collect data from Member States with a view to identifying the real capacity-building needs of developing countries and their requirements for technical co-operation. An improved version of the document (annex to TC 63/3(d)) was presented to the sixty-third session of the Technical Co-operation Committee (TC 63). Amended as requested, it is now available on the IMO website under http://www.imo.org/OurWork/TechnicalCooperation/ITCP/Pages/CMP.aspx.

At its sixty-second session, in July 2011, MEPC approved amendments to MARPOL Annexes I, II, IV, V and VI which will institutionalize regional arrangements for port reception facilities in unique circumstances

Following the introduction by the delegation of the United States of it's list of considerations for ocean fertilization the Working Group agreed to model the assessment framework on ocean fertilization after the "Risk Assessment and Management Framework for C02 Sequestration in Sub-seabed Geological Structures (CS-SSGS), adopted in 2006.
