Papua New Guinea (PNG) achieved its independence from colonial rule in 1975. The development goals of the independent PNG, as directed by the national constitution, are to achieve a high quality of life of all Papua New Guineans through: -Integral human development -Equality and participation of all -Enhancement of national sovereignty and self-reliance -Responsible management and use of natural resources for environmental sustainability, and -Sharing of resources in Papau New Guinean ways for the benefit of clans, tribes and communities rather than for individual benefit.
