This report is one of the deliverables for the assignment titled development of a data management and governance Policy for the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-hazards department. This report aims to review structure and develop options and recommendations for VMGD consideration.

This report provides a brief review of the dataset and methodology used to create projection information for extreme rainfall and windspeed as well ass tropical cyclone intensity for various location in Vanuatu.

The Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-hazards Department (VMGD) is working to develop a new procedures and capability to enhance operational climate monitoring, reporting and services to build weather and climate resilience in Vanuatu.

The inception report is developed with the ultimate purpose of acting as a roadmap/guide for the development of the data management and governance policy. It constitutes and details the main methodological approaches that will be employed to achieve the scope of the assignments and it deliverables.

The Vanuatu Klaemet Infomesen blong Redy, Adapt mo Protekt (VanKIRAP) project supports the Government of Vanuatu to institute a paradigm shift towards the standardised and mainstreamed use of science-based climate information, at multiple timescales to support resilient development pathways in Vanuatu.

SPREP is implementing climate information services for resilient development in Vanuatu (CISRD) or Vanuatu Klaemet infomesen blong redy, adapt mo protekt (Van KIRAP) project. T+TI has been engaged to provide technical expertise on the Van KIRAP project for the department of eater resources (DoWR) to review and update existing flood mitigation guidelines for the Srakata catchment in Espiritu Santo Island (Department of water resources, 2011) and to support the development of flood early warning systems in Sarakata

The Van-KIRAP project is intended to build the technical capacity in Vanuatu to (i) harness and manage all relevant climate data (ii) develop and deliver practical climate information services (CIS) tools and resources at all levels of society (iii) support enhanced coordination and dissemination of tailored climate-related information to a wide range of potentially vulnerable stakeholders, (iv) enhance and modernise Vanuatu's CIS information and technology infrastructure and (v) support the application and relevant CIS through real-time development processes and case studies in 5 sectors for more resilient outcomes.

The purpose of the Climate Information Services for Resilient Development in Vanuatu Klaemet Informesen Blong Redy, Adapt mo Protek (Van-KIRAP) Traditional Knowledge strategy 2019-2024 is to establish the strategic direction for strengthening coordination and implementation of traditional knowledge (TK) related activities for the Van-KIRAP project, the Vanuatu Meteorological and Geo-hazards Departments (VMGD) and its key shareholders.
