Pacific Conversation Card Series : Why Our Reefs are not Doomed?
SPREP Publications, Climate Change Resilience
Available Online
2022
We’ve made problems for corals, for sure. Ocean acidification is caused by humans’ carbon dioxide emissions, making it harder for corals to live and grow

Pacific Conversation Card Series :What's Wet and Green and Linked to Climate Change?
SPREP Publications, Climate Change Resilience
Available Online
2022
Wetlands are precious Pacific ecosystems that build our islands, protect us from waves and storm, and capture carbon dioxide (CO2) to store it in the plants and soils underneath

Pacific Conversation Card Series : What will Ocean Acidification Cost Us?
SPREP Publications, Climate Change Resilience
Available Online
2022
If we keep emitting carbon dioxide like we do today, the ocean's pH could drop by 150% by 2100 and coral reefs may become a memory.

Pacific Conversation Card Series : Turning Our Economy Blue
SPREP Publications, Climate Change Resilience
Available Online
2022
We probably cannot afford what the ocean gives us right now for free. For example, the ocean takes up carbon dioxide for us, and the value of this hidden ‘blue carbon’ service is estimated at USD 60 to 400 billion per year.

Pacific Conversation Card Series : Our Ocean and Tourism
SPREP Publications, Climate Change Resilience
Available Online
2022
Before the covid-19 pandemic, tourism was growing faster than most other economic sectors.. There are two striking parts of that growth. Visitors form emerging economies now represent almost half of international arrivals and ecotourism and sustainable tourism are the hottest draws.

Pacific Conversation Card Series : Ocean Water Reflects Our Choices
SPREP Publications, Climate Change Resilience
Available Online
2022
Ocean acidification is the ‘other’ effect of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. CO2 combines with seawater to produce carbonic acid, acidifying the seawater and depleting the seawater of carbonate that many forms of sea life need to build their shells.

Pacific Conversation Card Series : Lungs of Shores: Restoring Coastal Wetlands
SPREP Publications, Climate Change Resilience
Available Online
2022
These missing wetlands were part of our planet’s life support system, and big pressures are still facing the wetlands that remain. Mangroves, marshes, seagrasses, and coral reefs generate wealth for our communities and treasures for our cultural traditions.

2022
By 2050, under conservative projections of ocean acidification, sounds could travel as much as 70% farther in some ocean areas. This means ocean acidification affects whales and other animals, not just coral reefs and shellfish.
