This policy brief highlights the importance of engaging the private sector at the national and regional levels to access climate finance and draws out some common challenges for more effective engagement. Some options are provided to support the governments, private sector, civil society and development partners in any national climate actions.

Marine heatwaves can have devastating impacts on marine and habitats, often with flow-on effects to human communities and livelihoods. This is particular importance to Pacific Islands countries that rely heavily on coastal can ocean resources and for which projected to increase in future marine heatwave (MHW) frequency intensity and duration could be determental across the Pacific Island region.

The need to mitigate climate change, and the role that nature can play in doing so, are recognized under multilateral agreements, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Changes (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
