Disposal of used oil as a diesel extender in power plants is not a universally acceptable practice in the Pacific due to warrantee conditions placed on new electricity generating equipment

GEFPAS focal points have been contacted to supply contemporary used oil information, and contracted missions have been completed to Pohnpei, RMI and Fiji, with additional missions also completed opportunistically to Kiribati, Vanuatu and Niue.

This report covers the visit to the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) of March 4th to 11th 2018, as part of the consultancy engaged by SPREP under the Global Environment Facility's Pacific Assistance Strategy: Integrated Management of Solid and Hazardous Wastes and Persistent Organic Pollutants (GEFPAS uPOPS) project to update the situation in the RMI regarding their used oil stockpile.

The scale of climate change adaptation investments demands robust assessments of the expected and actual returns. We need to know how effectively adaptation keeps development on track and equally importantly how equitably adaptation costs and benefits are distributed.
