Abstract
On the 6th of February 2002 the Panamanian registered log ship, Jody F Millennium battled unusually large swells in New Zealands Gisborne Harbour. After breaking her moorings and struggling to prevent further damage, a decision was made to run for sea. On her way out of the harbour she struck the bottom immobilising her steering and power. Adrift and under the influence of high winds and swell, she was driven aground on Gisbornes Waikanae beach. A two year old 25,000 ton log carrier, fully laden, calls for help.. This film documents the actual chronological events from the night of the stranding, throughout the 57 day salvage period on behalf of UNITED SALVAGE (New Zealand) Ltd. and ADSTEAM MARINE Ltd. Containing onboard and onshore interviews, including actual ship radio commentaries, this salvage film gives a unique insight into the response by a professional salvor to a shipping casualty, so avoiding a major enviromental disaster.
