Forum Economic Ministers Meeting : the impact of trade liberalization in APEC held in Nadi,Fiji on 7-8 July 1998 ; Session 3 Background Paper.

This study was prepared by the Economic Committee of APEC and published in November 1997. It provides an assessment of the likely economic effects of implementing the action plans and other measures agreed by APEC members in 1994 and 1995 in respect ot tariff reductions and other measures aimed at facilitating trade. The results indicate that the gains from such measures in terms of economic welfare are substantial. Attention is drawn to the conclusion that the gains from trade facilitation substantially exceed gains from tariff reduction.
