Sea grapes (Caulerpa species. Chlorophyta) are widely consumed in the Pacific as a delicacy, a salad and as an addition to many dishes. The traditional harvesting and consumption of sea grapes in the Pacific may well have had their origins among South-East Asian peoples who migrated to and colonized the Pacific Islands 3-4,000 years ago. Sea grapes are consumed throughout the region by Melanesian, Micronesian and Polynesian peoples.

Nile tilapia (oreochromis niloticus) is an introduced low-value freshwater fish in the Pacific which can easily adapt to a wide variety of breeding environments. However, this fresh water fish has limited scope for consumption in the fresh form in Pacific Island countries like Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. Tilapia could be used to alleviate food security issues in light of the increasing fishing pressure and climate change threats

The energy sector is important to Samoa's economic, social, infrastructure and environmental composition. This plan has therefore been developed using extensive consultation with many groups. The purpose of the Energy Sector Plan is to provide a comprehensive plan for the energy sector to deliver outcomes consistent with the overarching Strategy for the Development of Samoa (SDS) 2012-2016, with due regard for cross-cutting issues including emphasising the importance of raising living standards, increasing resilience and boosting productivity for sustainable development. It provides a resourcing framework to support implementation of the plan.

This BIORAP (Biological Rapid Assessment Program) survey was undertaken as part of the process to facilitate improved management of the forests and biodiversity of Upland Savaii. More specifically, the survey was conducted to fill key gaps in the knowledge of this globally important put poorly studied region of montane and cloud forests. This information will be used to make better informed decisions on the conservation management of the biodiversity in the area in conjunction with Savaii land-owning communities, relevant government departments and other partners.
