A weak to moderate pulse of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is currently located in the Maritime Continent. In February, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the South Pacific Convergence zone were active with the SPCZ shifted south of its normal position over Vanuatu to Fiji.

The 2025–26 La Niña event is weakening and is expected to end soon, as ocean temperatures in the central tropical Pacific have been warmer than the La Niña threshold (−0.80 °C) for the past two weeks. While oceanic indicators of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) are steadily weakening, atmospheric indicators, such as trade winds, pressure and cloud patterns in the tropical Pacific remain consistent with borderline La Niña conditions

This year is shaping up to be a big one for the region and we continue to strengthen our collaboration with our partners to support our Members. With 2025 recorded as one of the warmest years on record, the need for enhanced climate science services and environmental resilience has never been more urgent.

Climate change is not gender neutral. Global evidence confirms that climate change impacts are not experienced equally. Across the Pacific, including in Micronesia, women often carry the greatest burden of climate impacts because of the roles they hold in their families and communities.
