The Indigenous Knowledge Leadership Programme (IKLP) is a part of the climate Resilient islands (CRI) programme and is designed to engage with traditional knowledge to nest inform climate resilience. The purpose of this programme is to activate traditional knowledge support the priority pathways identified by communities for increased resilience against the impacts of climate change.

A global effort is needed to implement ambitious climate action in view of accelerating climate impacts. Action on adaptation is still inadequate. Although there is clear evidence of accelerating climate impacts, changing geopolitical priorities and increasing fiscal constraints are making it more challenging to mobilize the resource needed for climate mitigation, adaptation and loss and damage.

The report encapsulates scientific research, social science analysis and Indigenous knowledge in a holistic way, while amplifying the voices of grassroots communities whose wisdom and experiences are often overlooked in climate policy discourses.

The maps in thsi report highlight how factors such as the rapid deterioration of biodiversity, the degradation of land and stress on water resources, lower the capacity of human systems to withstand hazards that are occurring more frequently and with greater intensity. The Government of Samoa's (GOS) Land Transport Authority (LTA) is implementing the Enhancing the Climate Resilience of the West Coast Road Project (CRWCR), which is part of the pilot program for Climate Resilience (PPCR). The West Coast Road (WCR) is the country's main arterial route and is commercial centre of Apia to the Faleolo International airport and the MUlifanua Wharf linking Upolu to Samoa's bigger island Savai'i. The Project is jointly financed by a grant from the Strategic Climate fund (SCF) and by the Government of Samoa (GoS).
