The Niue State of Environment (SoE) report provides our starting point, helping guide us as we journey towards our National Development Goals.

In terms of both population and land area. Niue is one of the smallest self-governing nations in the world. It is unique by its formation as an uplifted coral atoll.

Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC)

The Government of Kiribati, represented by Hon. Nabuti Mwenikarawa, Minister of Finance & Economic Planning and Ms Teea Tira, Secretary of Finance & Economic Planning and National Authorising Officer, and the European Commission, represented by Mr Roberto Ridolfi, Head of the Commission Delegation for the Pacific, hereinafter referred to as the Parties, held discussions from March 2006 until August 2007 with a view to determining the general orientations for cooperation for the period 2008-2013.

The fourth national report to the CBD will provide an opportunity to assess progress towards the 2010 Biodiversity Targets at national level, drawing on analysis of current status and trends in biodiversity and actions taken to implement the Convention at the national level.

Niue is the worlds largest and highest single coral atoll, yet in contrast is the smallest selfgoverning nation. It is an unique island with an elevated rugged coastline and extensive forest cover, which comprises 65% to 70% of the land area. Niue is primarily an agricultural-based economy. Land degradation as a result of deforestation in Niue potentially places threats on soil fertility, structure and bio-diversity.
