(Kiribati), southern PNG, western and southern Solomon Is., Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji and Rotuma, most of Tonga, Niue, southern Samoa, northern Cook Is., and Pitcairn Is. SST anomalies above 1.2°C are favoured in northern CNMI, southern PNG, southern New Caledonia. Elsewhere, SSTs are predicted to be nearnormal

(Kiribati), most of PNG, western and south Solomon Is., central and southern Vanuatu, western and southern New Caledonia, northern Tonga, Niue, southern A. Samoa, southwest Cook Is., north and parts of south French Polynesia. SST anomalies above 1.2°C are favoured in southern parts of PNG, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and southern French Polynesia. Nauru and western Kiribati are forecasted to have SSTs cooler than -0.4°C. Elsewhere, SSTs are predicted to be near-normal.

Oceanic indicators firmly exhibit an El Niño state. Central and eastern Pacific sea surface temperatures (SSTs) con-tinue to exceed El Niño thresholds. Models indicate further warming of the central to eastern Pacific is likely. During September, the trade winds were generally weak across the rest of the equatorial Pacific with some westerlies occurring in the western Pacific.
