Fishing has been major source of food, income, recreation activity, employment and various other economic benefits for the people of Pacific island countries and territories (PICTs). However with increases in population, urbanisation and development of fisheries, it has been realised that fisheries resources, although renewable are not infinite. They must be properly managed if their contribution to the nutritional, economic and social well-being of the growing population is to be sustained.

Samoa has been termed "The Heart of Polynesia". The Samoa Visitors Bureau has prepared this promotional video as a guide to assist tourists and visitors with information concerning the services and facilities offered by the Tourism Industry and local communities within Samoa, providing footage of the town of Apia, rental companies, and a visit to the tomb of famour writer/poet; Robert Louis Stevenson.

The Government of Tonga began promoting reef resources for generating foreign revenue in the mid 1980s. These particular reef resources include small inedible1 fish, corals (soft and hard), invertebrates and live rocks (rubbles, dead rocks, aquarium rocks). The purpose of this fishery is aimed at ornamental or pets in aquaria and is not for human consumption. All fisheries fundamentally have substantial economic contribution. It follows that it also has social importance. The UNEP reported that between 1.5 to 2 million world wide keeps marine aquaria in their homes, schools, Research Institutions and in public aquaria. By global standards it is a multi million dollar trade with an estimated worth of US$200-300 million generated annually.

The vulnerability of the people of Saoluafata and Lano are a cumulative impact of exposure,to climate related risks reflecting both climatic conditions and location of human settlement,assets and infrastructure and the capacity of the people to cope with the climate related risks. Communities have been adapting in the past and still are adapting today, however,extreme climate related extreme events are increasing which have greatly impacted on the livelihoods of the people and their socioeconomic and physical environment.

Samoa, a small islands country in the south pacific comprises of four main inhabitated islands and 6 smaller uninhabitated islands. The islands of Samoa lie between latitudes of 13° 15°S to and longitudes of 168° -173° W. The total land area is estimated to be around 2820 km2 whereby Upolu holds 1115 km2 and Savaii with 1700 km2. The capital Apia is located on the northern part of Upolu and is approximately 130 km from Pago Pago, American Samoa, 3000 km from Auckland, New Zealand, 4500 km from Sydney Australia, and 4300 km from Honolulu, Hawaii. The neighboring countries are Tonga to the south, Wallis and Futuna to the west, Tokelau to the north and American Samoa to the east.
