Wastewater treatment allows for the safe disposal of municipal and industrial wastewater to protect public health and the ecosystem. Reclaimed or recycled water and adequately treated wastewater is reused for a variety of applications, including landscaping, irrigation, and recharging groundwater aquifers. In many parts of the world, the problem of water scarcity is being exacerbated by urban growth and increasingly erratic rainfall patterns due to climate change.
