defining value Biodiversity as well as biodiversity resources and functions are intuitively valuable. Few would contest the fact that the decline of biodiversity would be costly to humankind, in particular with regard to those functions that cannot be replicated. But this general truth does not shed much light on how to identify,describe and measure the specific values that are held in respect of biodiversity and biological resources and functions.
