SPC fisheries address book

This bibliography has been compiled to document what had been written and researched about Niue’s biodiversity over the past years. It is a result of a participatory process with all the necessary stakeholders in Niue who hold such information. Thus the purpose of this bibliography is to determine how much had been written about the biodiversity of Niue.

The purpose of this Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (BSAP) is to Assist the Marshall Islands to Plan for the Conservation of its biodiversity and for in the sustainable use of its biological resources. This is the first time that such a strategy and action plan has been formulated for the country. It provides an opportunity for the government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to integrate principles of sustainable resource management and biodiversity conservation into the national development planning processes. As the Marshall Islands is heavily dependent on its natural resources, and its people have a close relationship with their biodiversity, the need for integration is very important. Sustainable development in the Marshall Islands is conditional upon the conservation of its biodiversity and sustainable management of its natural resources.

The contributors to this book focus on climate change issues in Australia, New Zealand and the small island nations in the South Pacific, as the world struggles to formulate responses and cope with possible impacts of global warming. The emphasis is on the scientific, political and legal issues that frame the climate change debate. An effort is made to assess the implications of climate on critical ecosystems in the region, as well as possible social and economic impacts on the region's inhabitants. Many of the contributors also discuss the role of regional factors, including government representatives and non-government organizations, in the formulation and evolution of the primary international legal instrument that addresses climate change, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

Wanting to make a positive difference in the world is one thing, knowing the best way to make that difference is another, yet for the Kingdom of Tonga this ‘best way’ seems to have been found and is being put to use.
