The Arnavon Marine Park

In a unique partnership that crosses community, language, province, and religious borders, the Arnavon Marine Park seeks to strengthen our spirit and cultural links to the environment through the preservation and protection critical habitats and species in the first and longest operating marine protect area within Solomon Islands. We do this in the belief that one of our roles on Earth is to be good stewards and caretakers of the natural gifts that we receive from it and also appreciate the choice that we make today will also affect the lives of those who will come after us.

Note that for several FAO areas some data exist by sub-areas as provided through regional organizations (e.g., ICES for FAO Area 27). The Sea Around Us makes use of these spatially refined data to improve the spatial allocation of catch data

This document provides practical guidance on developing management plans for Protected Areas (PA). It is generic in nature and so applicable to Pacific Islands and other regions of the world. Chapter 2 below explains the purpose of a management plan, along with other concepts central to planning. Chapter 3 provides a series of essential tasks to complete prior to, or very early in, the process of developing a PA plan. Chapter 4 provides the framework to follow for actually writing the PA plan. It suggests section headings to use and provides explanations regarding concepts to consider and items to include when developing each section of the management plan. This guide is an adaptation of an earlier work by the author on management planning in central African protected areas.

All Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have agreed on behalf of the Lima Call for Climate Action (Decision 1/CP.20) to develop and communicate to the Convention secretariat before 1st of October, their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs). This is a voluntary contribution to the expected global agreement to be reached in Paris at the end of this year during the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP 21). The Secretariat will then prepare by 1st of November 2015 a synthesis report on the aggregate effect of the INDCs. It has to be mentioned that, so far, the legal nature of INDCs is not yet determined.
