One of the main constraints for sustainable development in Tokelau is the high dependency on imported fuels. Power generation for the grid is 100 percent dependent on imported fossil fuels and the high dependency on fossil fuel in the power sector poses actual and potential problems for the atolls, inter alia negative effects on the economy, environment and security of supply.
